Quantum Fusion M® racing sails were put to the test last month in the very demanding Tour de France a la Voile. Competing in this year’s event were Maxime Paul, sail designer at Quantum Barcelona, with Team TPM—a past champion of the Tour—and Scott Nixon of Quantum Atlantic aboard the Groovederci owned by Farr 30 Class President Deneen Demourkas.

Of the 28 Farr 30 boats competing, nine were equipped with Quantum® sails. TPM and Groovederci both sailed with Quantum® class sails consisting of Fusion M® Carbon Mainsail, Code 1 and Code 2 jibs, and the Code 3 Fusion M® Aramid jib. TPM—one of the fastest teams on the water—finished third and Groovederci placed fourth in the general classification.  The race is considered one of the toughest one-design events with ten offshore races and 20 inshore races along the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of France over 30 days. Covering 1,000 miles, the teams stop in ten ports and transport the boats across land. According to Nixon, Quantum® sails had no failures or repairs throughout the event, even after an offshore race in a 40 knot Mistral resulted in a broken mast on the Groovederci Nixon says the Farr 30 is the best one design boat to come out of the Farr design office and is enjoying a resurgence in North America. The North Americans are in Annapolis in September and the Midwinter’s will be during Key West Race Week in January 2011. Also look for top Quantum team’s at the Worlds in October in Hyeres, France. Congratulations to the following teams for a great accomplishment and for choosing Quantum sails at this year’s Tour:
